December Weddings: Mississauga, Oakville, Cambridge

I was fortunate to shoot three beautiful and very distinct weddings last month. Each had it’s own unique flair. There are some great advantages to shooting in the winter and as a photographer. For example, I love taking advantage of the early sunsets and the opportunity to take dusk photos. The wedding above was at the beautiful Cambridge Mill and this shot was taken in the park right across the street. A perfect place to shoot and I love the beautiful downtown skyline of Cambridge, Ontario.

Also, if you’re lucky, you might even get some snowflakes right outside the Erindale Presbyterian Church.

Of course this has been a very mild winter and so far I have been able to go outside for photos for all my winter weddings. Even considering the mild temperatures for December, warm shawls are recommended. We never spend too long a period outside, typically five minutes then back inside to warm-up.

These photos were taken in the Queen’s Head British Pub in Oakville. The bride really wanted to get some photos near a fireplace and the pub was nice enough to let us shoot there. A great place to get warm. Might as well have a pint while you’re doing it.

All the guests at this wedding were taught how to make gingerbread houses. Really fun activity and the houses turned out amazing. Those are solar panels on top of that house.

Meghan and Warren Wedding: Rosewater Room, Toronto

A small sampling of wedding photography from Meghan and Warren’s beautiful day. To be honest though, it was hard not to take great photos of this gorgeous couple. Plus, I was super happy with their choices for formal photos. We traveled first to Coronation Park down by the water, and then to the Distillery District, two superb places to photograph in Toronto. Reception was at the Rosewater in downtown Toronto.

Traditionally, wedding parties had the same number of brides maids and groomsmen. More and more though there are all sorts of unbalanced wedding parties and they make for some really great photos.

Family Portrait: Distillery District

Spent a really fun afternoon with Rebecca, RJ and Jake at the distillery on one of the last great weather weekends of the year. Definitely one of those cases where there are almost too many great photos to choose from.

Bonnie & Chris Wedding: Scott Mission Camp

I was fortunate enough to shoot a number of beautiful outside weddings this summer, and this one was no exception. Bonnie and Chris actually met while working at the camp years ago, so it was a perfect environment. I especially loved the wonderful casualness to the day.

Bonnie found this front yard filled with birch tress just a few kilometres from the camp. The couple who owned the place was kind enough to let us use the property.

Sam & Marco Wedding: Konzelmann Winery, Niagara

I always love shooting weddings in the Niagara region, but this one was exceptionally fun. Together with Gremlin the dog (see below), Sam and Marco hosted a wonderful cast in a beautiful environment.

You might remember their fall engagement photos I shot last year in High Park. Unfortunately, their dog Sabertooth passed away after those photos and before the wedding, but I’ll always remember him as a super-model.

Liberty Village Engagement Photos

Liberty Village has become one of my absolutely favourite locations in the city to take photos. Not only is there such a wide variety of backdrops, but the light just glows off the old brick and best of all, it’s free to shoot. Here are samples from three different engagement shoots I shot in Liberty Village this summer. I love how the personalities of each individual couple shines differently in every shoot.

Fun Family Portrait: The Blandizzis

Family portraits don’t come much more fun that this, thanks entirely to the Blandizzi family. Each and everyone of them was a trooper, putting up with swarms of bugs, ants, a rushing stream, heat and a fair amount of jumping and running. Now while it might sound like I was task master, nothing could be further from the truth. It was just a fun afternoon with a fantastic family.

Robyn & Justin Engagement Shoot

What a fun engagement shoot. Beautiful day, beautiful location and beautiful people.
This is the perfect example of what I mean when I suggest couples choose a engagement shoot location that has meaning to them. Robyn & Justin met at Trinity College of the University of Toronto and are members and frequent visitors to the Royal Ontario Museum. While it just so happens it also is a brilliant spot to explore and take photos in loads of different environments, there was so much familiarity with the surroundings that Robyn and Justin could help suggest great spots to shoot and that held special meaning. I think it shows in the photos.
