Lightning Storm in Toronto - August 9, 2009
Aug 9th, 2009 by Joseph
Magical lightning storm in Toronto tonight. It was brilliant. I caught a few photos from my garage (below) and when I felt it was safe, braved the elements and made my way to the waterfront to catch the storm as it headed South over Lake Ontario and into New York. It was an amazing storm, and though I was about twenty minutes late for the best parts of the show, I caught a few brilliant flashes.
More photos below, including one I am sure that captures the blot that knocked a down a tree on Kipling, killing power to a few city blocks and blocking the two northbound lanes.

Taken from the cover of my garage:

This is the one I am sure hit the tree on Kipling.

Very nice pics! The first 2 would make a great desktop wallpaper. Is there any chance you could provide a full resolution link?
i love the top photo. great juxtaposition of the lightning and city skyline.
awesome shots ! the first is fantastic ! great wallpaper ! Do you have a hi-res file ?
These are *spectacular* photos. What kind of camera did you use? Can you divulge settings, how you took the pics, etc.? It’s absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks for the comments. I’ve added a larger copy of the top image at the bottom of the post if anyone is looking for new desktop wallpaper.
For both Toronto skyline images I shot using these settings: 8 seconds at f/8.0, 400 ISO. My focal length was 10mm on my Nikon D300.
